What’s in a name?
For over 40 years the Lewisburg Arts Council has presented a festival celebrating the visual and performing arts – known as the Lewisburg Arts Festival. The Festival began as a week-long collection of events throughout town and has since become a two-week event of its own, bookended by the Market Street Show on the last Saturday in April and Lewisburg Live! two weeks later. Starting in 2013, this amazing event will be called the Lewisburg Celebration of the Arts, happening this time from April 26 through May 11, 2013. The biggest component of the Celebration of the Arts will continue to be the Saturday event that is commonly known as the Lewisburg Arts Festival – and that will be its official name beginning in 2013.
The Lewisburg Arts Council is also proud to announce the 2013 Featured Artist, Donna Selfridge Spangler. Donna is a fraktur artist from Mifflinburg who is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Fraktur is a traditional Pennsylvania German folk art that has been part of Union County life since the 18th century. With the Union County Bicentennial happening in 2013, the Arts Council felt it important to showcase an historical art form that has a place in county history.
The Celebration of the Arts is anchored by two main events:
Lewisburg Live!, Saturday, May 11th – 8-10 bands in venues throughout downtown
New in 2013: Sketch Union County, Saturday, May 4th – preserving, with our artwork, a present moment in Union County.
